Twix & I playing in my classroom

www.pamsdogacademy.com Twix has been to my classroom a few times and came during parent teacher conferences as well. However, he has not been in my class when all those desks are filled with children. So, before I brought him to school with the kids, I wanted to make sure he was really comfortable in the classroom. Prior to doing tricks he hung out with me as I did grades. I have an area in the back that is blocked off with gates, blankets over the gates to make the dogs feel safe, a dog bed, water dish, and a crate. This way when they come to school with me, they can choose to be out with the students or in their safe zone away from kids. It is always their choice and usually they choose to be out with the kids. It is really sweet to watch! Kids and dogs just hanging out together and not stressing each other out. My students have been taught about calming signals and dog body language and are observing Isabelle and Twix (as well as I am!!!!) for any anxiety! Have a wonderful day! PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE! Pam & Twix

    Is this discrimination?

I have a son diagnosed as "moderate to severe Autistic". I receive SSI for him, as he is disabled. My family lives in an apartment owned by Humility of Mary Housing, a single parent ‘program’ run by a religious organization. To keep my apartment, I have been required to attend two meetings a month at a local church, and told that childcare is provided to kids for free during meetings. However, even though my son’s disability is known, he has been refused childcare due to behaviors associated with his condition for the past ten months. Arent they supposed to provide ‘reasonable accomodation’ if it’s due to his disability? In addition, in September I asked my ‘case manager’ to help me look into a way to get approved to get a service animal, and she said pets aren’t allowed and never looked into it at all. It took three months to get a gap in the fence fixed in the backyard; meanwhile, there were locks on the gate and my child kept escaping. I was told by maintenance to "watch your kid then", but they came and fixed it about a month later. I had no keys to the locks, so I had to run through my apartment to catch my child. I have heard phrases such as, "we have no previous experience with kids like him", "keep looking for help" yet not assisted in finding any when the program is supposed to exist to help me, etc. Wood went bad on the front porch, and a portion of that wasn’t replaced because no one "should walk there", yet my child nested in that spot with toys and they were aware… and didn’t fix that area. I need advice… is this fair, to do these things to us? Is this discrimination based on his disability? Or is it me overreacting, because I don’t think so.

What is the best way to keep the cats out of the nursery? ?

We have 2 cats that are not allowed to be in the nursery at all. Our little man isnt here yet but he will be next week. I dont want to keep the door closed but I do want to make sure they cant go in. At our pet safety class they suggested spraying them with a water bottle but I cant do that everytime they try to come in. Its mainly at night that Im worried about. If we get a pet gate they will jump over it unless it is extremely tall. Someone else suggested putting up a screen door so they cant get through and the door can stay shut at night. Is there a special screen door you can get for that reason or is it just a regular screen door you get at home depot? How would you install a screen door inside? Does anyone else have any suggestions?
He will be sleeping in his bassinet for the first couple weeks probably in our bedroom with us. Im more worried about the cat hair all over his stuff and the youngest cat peeing on his stuff. Really, he gets jealous and does stuff like that. He peed on some of my dogs toys in her basket when he got jealous last week. I dont trust our youngest cat but i cant keep the babies door shut at night. Even with a monitor that would drive me crazy. Ive heard about the static and weve actually tried using tape to keep them away from our fish. We even used thumb tacks when they pulled the plants out of the aquarium.

Please Help my year old English Mastiff-Jewel, she is destroying everything!?

Jewel, is a little over a year, she has her own room (a converted closet in our bedroom with a twin size bed and pet gate for a door). She roams the house when we are home and sleeps with us at night. When we leave she is kept in her room. The problem is that she is tearing up her room, first it was the gate, she either chewed or scratched the top. Next it was the walls, she has scratched through the wallboard and gotten into the insulation. Then it moved to the door (which we never close) she either chewed or scratched the wood so much that the door is nearly ruined. At that point we figured she may need to have more space, so we gave her access to the bedroom while we were gone, she proceeded to scratch up the wood floors under the door and scratch at the trim. She went back into her room and is now tearing apart her bed. She has plenty of chew toys and bones and is doing well in obedience training. How can we keep her from tearing stuff up while we are not home?
